In this series of small sculptures, Chase-Daniel focuses on our increasing interaction with technology. Chase-Daniel has stripped away the bland ergonomic injection-molded containers of telephones, radios, and clocks, and replaced them with unexpected elements of the natural and fabricated world. A functional telephone is now built of rock and willow, with the raw electronic components strapped on the outside. A gaudy portrait of a trophy horse has telephone components bolted directly onto it. We may observe the sculpture from across the room, but we may also answer the phone as it rings, and this experience will affect our conversation.
